8/2/12 Pedestrian Hit By Train
A Storm Lake man was injured when he was hit by a train Wednesday afternoon.
Police were dispatched shortly before 4:00 p.m. to the intersection of West Milwaukee Avenue and Barton Street, where a train had struck a pedestrian. The victim… 19-year-old Deon Parkhurst of Storm Lake… was found lying on the south side of the railroad tracks west of the Barton Street crossing. Parkhurst was suffering from multiple injuries as a result of being struck by a Canadian National train which was westbound on the railroad tracks. The train had also stopped just west of the scene.
Witnesses told police Parkhurst was walking westbound on the railroad tracks and was struck from behind by a westbound train. Parkhurst was taken by paramedics to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and was later airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. His condition is unknown.
The incident remains under investigation by the Storm Lake Police Department. Police were assisted by the state patrol, the Buena Vista County Paramedics, and the Canadian National Railroad Police Department.
