7/18/12 SL FEMA Project Expanded

Some improvements to the Storm Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant have been included in the FEMA hazard mitigation project.
City manager Jim Patrick says the improvements were anticipated to be a separate project funded by the city… but FEMA and Iowa Homeland Security have agreed they can be included in the 17-million dollar project, so they will be eligible for federal and state funds.  The additional cost is 703-thousand dollars…. bringing the total project to 17-point-eight million dollars.  FEMA is paying for 75-percent of the project, with the state paying ten percent.  The city’s portion of the project will increase to 105-thousand dollars, to a total of two-point-six million.
Patrick says the plans and specs for the project are about 90-percent done.  He says the plans will go back to FEMA for final review yet this month… and the project should to out for bid in September.
