Iowa Democratic Senator Tom Harkin has announced that over 59 million dollars is coming to help rural electric development projects.
Corn Belt Power Cooperative is receiving a large portion of the funding, which includes over 55 million dollars to finance generation system improvements, and nearly 23 million for environmental improvement projects. The improvements will help serve residents and businesses in counties including Buena Vista, Pocahontas, Sac, Calhoun, Clay, Carroll, Crawford, Dickinson, and Palo Alto.
The funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service Development Program. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee that funds rural development initiatives.
