7/2/12 Warm Weather Info For Star Spangled Spectacular
Storm Lake Public Safety and Buena Vista County EMS supervisors met earlier today in advance of the July 4th events in Storm Lake to discuss and plan for related issues to triple digit heat indexes which are predicted for the July 3rd and 4th events.
Public Safety is asking visitors to the Star Spangled Spectacular to dress in cool clothing and stay hydrated in response to the predicted high temperatures.
Public Safety Director Mark Prosser states, “We want all of our visitors and participants to have a great experience at this years Star Spangled Spectacular and knowing it’s going to be very hot we ask that they plan accordingly. Keep hydrated, stay cool and take advantage of the shade cover in our parks and don’t over exert yourself in the heat.”
Buena Vista County EMS has advised public safety that additional supplies will be placed on their EMS units to address larger than normal numbers of heat related complaints.
Storm Lake Public Safety will deploy its DeCon Chamber to the intersection of East Lakeshore Drive and Irving Street after the parade is over and will activate shower heads with cool water that runs though them (Cooling Station). Patrons to the parks events may walk through the chamber if they choose and be cooled by the flowing water. The “Cooling Station” will be in service until 5:00pm and monitored by the Storm Lake Fire Department.
Anyone who is feeling ill from the heat whether in the parks or at home is encouraged to seek medical attention or call 911.
