Candidates can now be nominated for the upcoming Buena Vista County
FSA Committee election. This year, the election will be held for Local Administrative
Area Number 3, which includes Elk, Nokomis, Washington, Maple Valley, and Hays
Township.
          Farmers and landowners can nominate candidates through August 1^st at the
Farm Service Agency Office in Storm Lake. Nomination forms can be picked up
at the FSA Office, and are available on-line at www dot fsa dot usda dot gov.
The election will be conducted by mail ballot on December 4^th.
          Those that are nominated must live in the Local Administrative Area, and be
engaged in farm operations. Recent emphasis has been placed on improving diversity
on the County FSA Committees, and for that reason, beginning farmers are encouraged
to run.
          The BV County FSA Committee oversees USDA farm programs administered
through the FSA. Committee duties include, attending committee meetings,
recommending changes in farm programs, and performing other duties as assigned
by the Iowa State FSA Committee.
          Current BV Committee members include, Gary Balder of Albert City, Jim Hultgren
of Alta, and Ruth Mickelson of Storm Lake.
