5/23/12 Lovan House Fire

A house fire in Storm Lake Tuesday morning caused thousands of dollars in damage.
The Storm Lake Fire Department was called to the fire shortly after 7am at 713 Grand Avenue.  Fire fighters, upon arrival, learned that the Storm Lake Police Department had successfully assisted a subject off of a second story roof, who had escaped the fire through a second story window.  The victim, 26 year old Justin Lovan, was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where he was treated for minor injuries sustained in the fire.  Four other occupants escaped the residence unharmed.
Fire fighters extinguished the fire that was burning in a second story bedroom.  An investigation determined that the fire was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.
Fire damage was limited to the second floor bedroom, with smoke and heat damage throughout the house.  Damage is estimated at 10 thousand dollars.
The residence is owned by Miles and Desiree Lovan.
The Storm Lake Fire Department was on the scene for about two hours, and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department, and the Buena Vista County Paramedics.
