2/22/12 SL Council: $4-million Sewer Notes

The Storm Lake City Council has approved the process of issuing four-million dollars in notes for the FEMA sewer improvement project.
This week, the council held a public hearing on the sewer revenue capital loan notes.  City finance director Jennifer Movall says the notes will finance the city’s portion of the 17-point-two million dollar project… which includes sewer plant upgrades along with collection system and lagoon improvements.  The city is paying 15-percent of the cost of the project… with FEMA paying 75-percent and the state ten percent.
The council also scheduled a public hearing for April second for the acquisition of land needed for the project.   Earlier, Veenstra and Kimm Engineering was hired to coordinate land purchases needed for the project.  City clerk Justin Yarosevich says they mostly will need easements from property owners for the sewer line, but there will be some property purchased for lift station locations.
