East Sac County nearly overcame a big haltime deficit, but Carroll Kuemper hung on for a 67-59 2A Boys Basketball District Final win in Denison Tuesday night.
The Raiders only led briefly early in the game, and the Knights took a 20-10 lead after one quarter. Carroll Kuemper's lead grew to as many as 20 in the 2nd quarter, and they led at halftime 41-23.
East Sac refused to quit, scoring the first eight points of the 3rd quarter. The Raiders cut it to a 49-40 game after the 3rd quarter, helped by Reed Tellinghuisen's 10 points in the quarter. East Sac got within five points three times during the 4th quarter, but the Knights would not allow them to gain any further ground.
Tellinghuisen dazzled for the Raiders, hitting seven 3's and 27 points, and was named the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game. Collin Schrader chipped in 10 points. East Sac hit 11 3's on the night. Three Kuemper players wound up in double-figures, led by Carter Daniel with 22.
The Knights are now 17-7 and will play in a Substate Final. The Raiders season ends at 18-6.
