2/21/12 SL Council Approves Annexation

One-hundred-86 acres of land on the east side of Storm Lake will be annexed into the city.
Monday afternoon, the city council approved the voluntary annexation… which had been requested by the three property owners involved.  The largest portion… 104 acres… is owned by the Lake Improvement Commission and is used as a spoil site for the dredging project.  In November, the commission voted to request the annexation.  At that time, Buena Vista County Supervisor Paul Merten objected to taking a vote without discussing the matter with the Board of Supervisors, saying the annexation affects the whole county.  City manager Jim Patrick noted since no taxes are paid on the property, the county wouldn’t lose any revenue with the property in the city limits.  The Supervisors did approve a resolution opposing the annexation.
The land will remain zoned agricultural once it comes into the city.
