OA-BCIG Girls Return To State To Defend Title

OA-BCIG was pushed to the limit by Western Valley rival Lawton Bronson, but the Falcons found a way to beat the Eagles for a third time this season, as they posted 59-51 2A Region Final win in Mapleton Monday night.

The Eagles took charge early, as they led 18-8 after the 1st quarter.  OA-BCIG fought back in the 2nd quarter, as they slowly chipped away, and took a 28-26 lead at halftime.

The 3rd quarter produced two ties, and five lead changes.  The Eagles led by as many as four points on two occasions in the 3rd, and took a 41-39 lead into the 4th quarter.

Erin Rasmussen hit a 3 pointer to start the 4th for the Falcons.  Lawton Bronson would soon regain the lead at 45-44, but a Morgan VanDersloot 3 put the Falcons back in front.  After the Eagles tied it, a basket by VanDersloot gave the Falcons a 49-47 lead, which they would not relinquish the rest of the way, as a Jessie Pauley basket made it a four point game.  After the Eagles got within two points again, Kenzie Teut hit a layup, and VanDersloot and Pauley free throws, along with great defense by OA-BCIG sealed the win down the stretch.

VanderSloot had 11 of her 22 points in the 4th quarter, and was named the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game.  Jessie Pauley was right on her heels with 18 points.  The Falcons hit all 12 of their free throws, all from VanDersloot and Pauley.

The defending state champion Falcons are now 25-0, and back in Des Moines for the third straight season.  OA-BCIG will play West Marshall in a 2A 1st Round game next Monday night, February 27th.  That game is scheduled for an 8:30 start, and will be broadcast on 92.9 The Moose KKIA.
