The City of Spencer has made the preemptive decision to begin construction of a temporary sandbag berm on the West side of South Grand Avenue, south of the Grand Avenue bridge and on the North side of Fourth Street South West.
Crews will begin work on the Fourth street portion Friday afternoon. After reviewing data the city believes there is an elevated risk of potential river flooding. Spencer has seen record river levels twice in less than a year and the groundwater remains high combined with the current flooded river basin. The city says they are maintaining current levels but remain concerned with future storm events.
As construction of the berm begins, updates will be posted to the City’s Facebook page.
