The Sioux Central boys basketball team is going to the state tournament for the first time ever, thanks to an 80-69 win over Exira EHK in a 1A substate final Tuesday night in Carroll.
Exira EHK led by as many as eight early on, but the Rebels ended the 1st quarter on a 7-2 run to get within 16-13. Sioux Central took their first lead at 18-17. The Spartans regained a one-point lead right after, but Sioux Central then went on top 21-19 and never trailed after that. A three-pointer by Hunter Decker with three seconds left in the half put Sioux Central up 40-31 at the break.
Exira EHK never got any closer than that in the 2nd half. A three by Logan Grote in the final seconds of the 3rd quarter gave the Rebels a 58-45 lead going to the 4th.

Decker led the way with 21, followed by Cavanaugh with 17, and Hanson had 12.
Trever Schulz led three Spartans in double-figures with 18, as #7 Exira EHK concludes at 22-3.
#6 Sioux Central is now 22-2. The Rebels will play in a 1st round state tournament game next Monday in Des Moines, which will be broadcast on Mix 101.7.
