Storm Lake Boys Basketball Claims Share Of Lakes Title

Cham Deng and Mach Nyaw scored 22 points a piece and the Storm Lake boys basketball team picked up a 66-61 win at Estherville-Lincoln Central Tuesday night.  The win, coupled with Western Christian’s 59-47 win over Le Mars gives Storm Lake a share of their first Lakes Conference title since the Tornadoes state championship team of 1980.  All three teams finished 9-3 in the league.  After the game head coach Heath Stille had the following comments.

The Tornadoes are now 13-5 overall and will play at South Central Calhoun Thursday night.

The E-L-C girls made eleven 3-pointers in their 60-52 win over Storm Lake.  The Tornadoes trailed by as many as 20 in the 2nd half at 45-25. However they never gave up and closed the gap to seven points with under a minute to play.  Skylar Cole scored 18 points, Rachel Bozonie had 14, and Mary Yanga added 12.  The Tornadoes fall to 3-17 overall and will conclude the regular season Thursday night with a varsity only game at Pocahontas Area starting at 6pm.
