A 25-5 stretch for Emmetsburg in the 4th quarter broke open what had been a close game, lifting the E-Hawks to a 63-39 win over Storm Lake St. Mary’s in boys basketball Friday night at the Panther Pit.
St. Mary’s led by as many as three early on, but Emmetsburg took the lead for good late in the 1st quarter, going up 15-10 after eight minutes, and 29-23 at the half. The Panthers got as close as one during the 3rd.
Jake Heitman led St. Mary’s with 17, as they fall to 1-16 overall. Emmetsburg is 7-12.
The Emmetsburg girls led from the middle of the 1st quarter to the finish line in their 51-36 victory.
The score was 15-8 after the 1st quarter, and 26-23 at halftime. The Panthers got no closer than three during the 3rd quarter, as the E-Hawks took a 38-29 lead into the 4th. Emmetsburg hit a three to start the 4th, and the lead never dipped below double-figures after that.
Lizzie Lenhart topped St. Mary’s with nine points, as they Panthers go to 6-12 overall. Emmetsburg has now won nine of their last ten, as they sit at 12-7.
