Alta-Aurelia/Saint Mary’s Basketball Recap

The Alta-Aurelia boys won their 7th game in a row and completed a season sweep of Saint Mary’s defeating the Panthers 67-25 Tuesday night in a game played at the Panther Pit in Storm Lake.

Anthony Krier buried four 3-pointers and scored 14 first half points helping the Warriors jump out to a 33-15 lead at halftime.  Alta-Aurelia would then outscore Saint Mary’s 17-2 in the 3rd quarter to break the game wide open.  Tyler Hanks led the way scoring a game high 16 points and he played great defense and rebounded earning the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda player of the game.

After the game Warriors coach Evan Franzmeier had the following comments.

Alta-Aurelia is now 9-2 overall.  The Panthers, who were led in scoring by Jake Heitman with eight points, are now 1-9.

The Saint Mary’s girls beat Alta-Aurelia for the second time this season doing so last night 50-26.  Emily Nothwehr, the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda player of the game, buried four 3-pointers in the first half on her way to a game high 22 points.  Danika Demers added 14 and Lizzie Lenhart tallied 12.  The Panthers are now 5-6 overall.

Alta-Aurelia, now 0-13, was led by Chloe Krueger’s nine points.  The Warriors made ten field goals in the game and half of them were three pointers with Krueger making three.

The Saint Mary’s teams will host East Sac County on Friday night with the games to be broadcast on Mix 101.7 KAYL.  The Warriors host South Central Calhoun on Friday with both Titans teams coming to Alta ranked in the top ten in their class.
