Wildcats Hand Tornadoes First Loss

Tyler Vitzhum carried the ball 30 times for 184 yards and a touchdown leading Humboldt to a 28-6 win over Storm Lake Friday night at Tornado Field.

Storm Lake scored on the opening possession of the game when quarterback Mark Eddie ran for a 16 yard touchdown on a 4th-down-and-3 play capping off a 67 yard drive on nine plays.  The Tornadoes would total only 167 yards more of offense the rest of the game.

Midway through the 2nd quarter the Wildcats marched 79 yards on 14 plays with Lucas Volf plunging in from two yards out, he would then kick the extra point and the Wildcats led 7-6.  The score stayed that way through the rest of the first half.  Jamison Heinz would then take the 2nd half kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and Humboldt led 14-6.  Early in the 4th quarter Vitzhum would score on a 25 yard touchdown run capping off a 39 yard drive that was set up by Heinz’ interception and it was 21-6.  Then with under two minutes to play Joey Busse hit Matt Miller on a 25 yard touchdown pass to give Humboldt the final score of the game.

Humboldt had 271 yards of offense, Storm lake finished with 238.

For Storm Lake, Kole Wiegert led the running attack with 70 yards on 13 carries.  Eddie finished the game 11 of 23 for 109 yards and one interception.

With the win Humboldt improves to 2-1.  The Tornadoes are now 2-1 and will play again next Friday at OA-BCIG.  That game will be broadcast on 92.9FM and video streamed at stormlakeradio.com.
