The latest crop progress report for Iowa says recent rains are helping to ease moisture concerns across much of southern Iowa, although soil moisture levels remain mostly short to very short in many south-central and southeast counties.
Iowa’s corn and soybean crops continue to run about a week ahead of normal. As of Sunday, 15 percent of the corn crop was mature statewide, nine-percent in northwest Iowa. Almost one-third of the soybean crop was coloring, 25-percent in northwest Iowa… with four percent dropping leaves statewide. Pasture conditions improved to 47 percent good to excellent.
Last week, there were 3.9 days suitable for field work in northwest Iowa. Topsoil moisture as of Sunday… three-percent short, 78-percent adequate, 19-percent surplus.
