On the evening of Saturday, September 1, 2018 at approximately 7:37pm the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to the Sieben’s Forum on the campus of Buena Vista University in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that a small grease fire had occurred and been extinguished in the kitchen. The smoke from the extinguished fire activated the alarm system.
There was no damage or injuries.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted by the Storm Lake Police Department and BVU Security.
On the afternoon of Monday, September 3, 2018 at approximately 3:47pm the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the parking lot at the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to a disturbance in progress.
Upon arrival of police they were directed by witnesses to two persons who allegedly had been engaged in a verbal disagreement. Police contacted that two and further allege that a verbal disagreement occurred between the two when one of them identified as Samantha Kaye Erickson, age 24 of Cherokee, IA started yelling alarming several people in the parking lot.
Following an investigation the SLPD arrested Erickson and charged her with Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.
On the morning of Saturday, September 1, 2018 at approximately 9:11am the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to #11 Peterson Drive in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that cooking smoke activated the alarm system.
There was no fire and no damage.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and BVU Security.
On the evening of Friday, August 31, 2018 at approximately 7:30pm Storm Lake Police were alerted in reference to an intoxicated juvenile in the restroom at the Storm Lake High School Football Stadium.
Police made contact with a 17 year old male of Storm Lake and following an investigation arrested and charged the juvenile with Public Intoxication (simple misdemeanor).
The juvenile was processed and released to a parent pending a date in Juvenile Court.
On the morning of Saturday, September 1, 2018 at approximately 5:30am the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 600 block of Hudson Street in reference to an adult male standing in the roadway shouting.
Upon arrival police made contact with the person and identified him as Tariku Worku, age 36 of Storm Lake.
Police allege that Worku was intoxicated and arrested him charging him with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication (both simple misdemeanors). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600.00 bond.
