In a game that featured nine turnovers, the Storm Lake football team moved to 2-0 with a 13-6 win over Alta-Aurelia Friday night at Storm Lake.
The Warriors led 6-0 at half thanks to a Levi Sleezer nine yard touchdown run late in the first quarter which capped off a 3-play 18 yard drive that was set up by Storm Lake’s first turnover. With under five minutes to play in the first half it appeared that the Warriors scored another touchdown when they recovered a fumble in the end zone, but an inadvertent whistle nullified the play and the score remained 6-0. Storm Lake had four turnovers in the first half but still out gained the Warriors 140-30 in the first half.
Storm Lake would then score 13 points in 64 seconds in the 3rd quarter starting with a Kole Wiegert five yard touchdown run, which capped off a 8-play 62 yard drive, the extra point by Dawson Miller gave Storm Lake a 7-6 lead. The ensuing kickoff was fumbled by the Warriors and Storm Lake recovered at the Warriors 20. Two plays later Colton Drieth scored on a ten yard touchdown run to put the Tornadoes ahead 13-6.
Alta-Aurelia ended up turning the ball over on their last four possessions.
Storm Lake ran 75 plays on offense for 292 yards of offense, the Warriors had 30 plays of offense for 63.
Wiegert carried the ball 20 times for 85 yards and a touchdown and Drieth ran the ball 12 times for 96 yards and a score, the two shared the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda player of the game. Mark Eddie was 8 of 16 for 41 yards and three interceptions.
Storm Lake had 18 first downs compared to the Warriors four.

Alta-Aurelia, now 1-1, will play next Friday at South O’Brien. Storm Lake, now 2-0, will host Humboldt next week.
