ELC Edges Poky in District Final

A two-out, two-RBI single by pinch hitter Will Larson in the 6th inning gave Estherville Lincoln Central their winning margin in a 4-3 win over Pocahontas Area on Saturday night in Estherville in a 2A baseball district final.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th, when an RBI single by Lucas Gardner and an RBI double by Blake Miller put ELC up 2-0.

Jace Davidson’s two-RBI single in the 5th tied it at 2-2.  In the 6th, Cage Arends RBI single gave Poky a 3-2 lead, until Larson’s heroics in the bottom of the inning.

Each team had eight hits on the night.  Christian Davidson went the distance for the Indians.  Evan Olesen got the win, throwing the final 2 2/3 innings.

The game took only one hour and 18 minutes to complete.

The 7th-ranked Midgets are now 24-3, and will play Forest City in a substate final Tuesday night in Algona.

Poky’s season ends at 20-11.  Their four seniors, Shea Ruffridge, Chase Boeve, Matt Hoffmeyer, and Braden Ehn shared the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game.
