Nighthawks Blank Tornadoes In District Opener

Zach Noble threw 6 2/3 inning’s and out-dueled Storm Lake’s Mark Eddie and Boyden-Hull-Rock Valley beat Storm Lake 3-0 in a class 3A district semi-final game played Saturday night at Storm Lake.

Noble allowed just two hits, struck out five and walked two.  Dylan Harman came in with two outs and the bases empty and got the final out of the game.  The only hits for Storm Lake were Drew Price’s one out single in the first, and Ben Raveling’s two out double in the fifth.  The only time Storm Lake had more than one runner on base was in the 4th when Noble gave up back to back walks with one out to Brayden Hoops and Kayfrin Pelep, but he would get the final two outs on a pop up and a fly ball out.

Eddie was very sharp for the Tornadoes, the freshman retired the first nine batters of the game and gave up only one earned run on three hits while striking out eleven batters and walking just one.

In the top of the 4th inning, Cade Moser led off with a bunt single, Brett Van Der Wilt would then deliver a base hit to right-center field on a hit and run and the Nighthawks had runners at first and third with no outs.  Eddie would then strike out Harman for the first out, but Eric Salazar laid down a squeeze bunt up the first base line that scored Moser, and on the play there was a throwing error at first base allowing Van Der Wilt to score.  BH-RV would add another unearned run in the sixth.

The Tornadoes conclude the year with a record of 18-7.  BH-RV is now 15-8 and will play Sergeant Bluff-Luton Monday night at 7pm in Storm Lake in a district final game.  SBL beat Spirit Lake 8-2 in the first game played Friday night in Storm Lake.
