On the morning of Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at approximately 10:31am the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to the Storm Lake Library located at 609 Cayuga Street in reference to a reported burning odor.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that a light ballast in a fluorescent light fixture had failed causing the odor.
There was no fire and no damage.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 30 minute and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.
On the morning of Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at approximately 11:07am the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 708 Michigan Street #3 in reference to a disturbance.
Responding officers were advised by the reporting party that a tenant identified as Joshua Vitollo, age 30 of Storm Lake allegedly yelled at and threatened the reporting party.
Police made contact with Vitollo and upon taking him into custody police allege he resisted officers and was subdued. Following an investigation the SLPD charged Vitollo with Disorderly Conduct and Interference With Official Acts (both simple misdemeanors). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600.00 bond.
No injuries were reported.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at approximately 2:57pm the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival of police they met with store staff who alleged that Elicia Downey, age 22 of Alta, IA and Sammy Sriboonreuang, age 28 of Storm Lake attempted to remove over $20.00 in merchandise from the store without paying for it at which time they were detained.
Following an investigation the SLPD arrested both persons and charged them with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor). Both persons were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond each.
On Friday, June 23, 2018 the Storm Lake Police Department took a report in reference to a violation of a no contact order.
Police were advised by the reporting party that a Diego Figueroa-Gonzalez, age 30 of Storm Lake allegedly texted the reporting party several times in violation of a no contact order.
On the evening of Wednesday, July 11, 2018 the SLPD was advised that Figueroa-Gonzalez was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on an unrelated charge. The SLPD then further charged him with Violation of a No Contact Order (simple misdemeanor). He was held without bond.
On the evening of Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at approximately 11:30pm the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 1511 Shoreway Road in reference to a report of a party underway involving underage drinking.
Upon arrival of police they allege they encountered a large number of persons under the legal age to consume alcohol who were in possession of or consuming alcoholic drinks. Police further report a large number of other young persons fled on foot as police approached the residence. Police detained and charged over 30 adults and juveniles with Possession of Alcohol (simple misdemeanor). The adults were cited and released pending a court date. The juveniles were cited and released to parents or guardians pending a court date.
