The Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors has approved purchases for the secondary roads and sheriff’s departments.
The board approved 210-thousand dollars for snow equipment and dump boxes for two new truck chassis, one a single axle, the other a tandem. The tandem truck is for the Linn Grove area and if it works out, the secondary roads department will consider a similarly equipped truck for the Sioux Rapids area.
Sheriff Kory Elston requested the purchase of an aerial work platform, at a cost of 62-hundred dollars. He said it’s needed for safety reasons, saying changing a light bulb in the jail is a major project using a 22-foot ladder. Building and grounds superintendent Joe Keller said the lift will also be needed for some energy efficiency projects they have planned for the jail, noting it will reach 30 feet. One of the projects involves re-doing air flow going into the jail cells, which has been an on-going problem.
