Tornado Boys Soccer Blanks Spencer

The Storm Lake boys soccer team opened Lakes Conference play with a decisive 6-0 victory at Spencer on Thursday night.

The 3rd-ranked Tornadoes broke a scoreless tie with 13:47 left in the first half when Jose Martinez scored off an assist from Kevin Duque. Storm Lake doubled their lead when Andy Rodriguez found the back of the net nine minutes later. Julius Seasons increased the lead to 3-0 less than five minutes into the second half when he scored unassisted from outside of the goal box.

Gerardo Rosiles was taken down on a break away and awarded a free kick, which he converted with less than twenty minutes remaining. Duque increased the Tornado advantage to five goals when he bent a shot underneath the cross bar and Rosiles finished the scoring by netting his second goal of the game, assisted by Brian Munoz.

The Tornadoes have now won seven consecutive games against Spencer and outshot the Tigers 15-2 in the contest. Winning goaltender Jorge Ventura (2-0) finished with two saves in 50 minutes of action before being relieved by Brayden Hoops. Duque, who is already Storm Lake’s all-time assist leader, now has 63 career goals, three away from setting a new school record.

Storm Lake improves to 2-0 (1-0 Lakes) while Spencer drops to 0-2 (0-2) on the season. The Tornadoes return home Monday to take on Spirit Lake.
