Expect to see an increased presence of law enforcement on the roads this week.
Most area law enforcement agencies will be participating in a special enforcement project over the upcoming Saint Patrick’s Day holiday period. It begins Wednesday and continues through Saturday.
Officers will especially be on the lookout for drunk drivers and those not wearing seatbelts. Statistics from the National Highway Safety Administration show that nationally during the 2016 St. Patrick’s holiday, 39 percent of all vehicle crash fatalities involved drunk drivers and that most of those crashes took place between midnight and 6:00 a-m on March 18th.
In addition, authorities say drivers should also keep an eye out for pedestrians who have had too much to drink.
