The Storm Lake City Council has approved a resolution of support for state tax credits for local housing.
City manager Keri Navratil says Jospeh Aube is submitting an application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority for the Workforce Housing Tax Incentive program. If approved, there would be a five-year property tax exemption on the first 75-thousand dollars of value on five residential lots in the Friesen Addition. Navratil says the tax abatement would have no effect on city revenue as the tax credits would come from the state.
The council this week also approved waiving fees for six spaces in the campground that will be used this summer by volunteers coming to Storm Lake to help Habitat for Humanity. Over 26-hundred hours is expected to be donated, a benefit of about 63-thousand dollars in contributed labor. The fees waived total about 68-hundred dollars.
