Six Charged With Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury

Six Storm Lake residents have been charged after police investigated a report of ongoing physical abuse of three small children by multiple members of their father’s family and an acquaintance to the father.

Police say the children… ages 11, eight, and seven… were removed from their father’s home by the Department of Human Services after allegations of his ongoing use and abuse of meth.

An investigation alleges the children’s mother was deported several years ago and the children moved in with their father and his family. Over an extended period of time the father and adult members of his family repeatedly physically assaulted the three children by beating them with household items such as hangers, kitchen utensils, shoes and more. On one occasion it’s alleged one of the adults told the children they wished they would die.

After an investigation, police Tuesday made six arrests at 1204 North Oneida Street. All six were charged with three counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury, a class “D” felony.

Those arrested are… 33-year-old Khemphorn Sriharath, 31-year-old Kesone Sriharath, 21-year-old Phetsamon Sriharath, 55-year-old Bounving Chanthavysouk , 53-year-old Vanly Sriharath, and 18-year-old Nathan Sriharath, all of Storm Lake. All six were jailed on 15-thousand dollar bonds.

Police were assisted in the investigation by the Iowa Department of Human Services and the Mercy Medical Center Child Advocacy Center.
