The Storm Lake City Council has approved a local concern to operate the Casino Beach marina this season.
The city had asked for proposals, but didn’t receive any by the December first deadline. Since then, two firms expressed interest and met Monday afternoon with the council. Northland Auto and Marine of Emmetsburg proposed providing marina sales and service and boat sales… but suggested they would likely only be open seasonally, at least for the first year… and proposed having a vendor such as a food truck operate food and beverage service.
The council accepted a proposal from Buoys Bar and Grill of Storm Lake. Representative Brett Redenbaugh said Buoys is connected with the Smokin’ Hereford… and intends to develop the marina as a tourist attraction. They’re proposing being open year round… providing a bait shop along with a restaurant and bar. Various marina services would also be offered.
The council approved a three-year contract with Buoys… which could be amended later. It calls for the first two years rent… 24-thousand dollars… be refunded to Buoys, who would use those funds for capital improvements. Redenbaugh noted they need to get work underway soon… with numerous improvements needed. He said they hope to be fully operational by late March or early April.
