Slow 2nd Quarter Dooms Alta Aurelia in Substate Loss

The Alta Aurelia boys basketball team fell short in their second straight 2A substate final appearance, as #8 Sheldon downed the Warriors 62-42 in Spirit Lake Monday night.

Alta Aurelia built their biggest lead at 10-6 midway through the 1st quarter.  The Orabs scored the last six points of the 1st quarter to take a lead that they would not let go of.  Alta Aurelia managed only four points during the 2nd quarter, and Sheldon ended the half on a 12-0 run to go up 27-14.  The Warriors could only shave one point off of that deficit during the 3rd quarter.

Kyle Boerhave and Jaden Kleinhesslink each had 15 for Sheldon (21-3), as they advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2013, when they won it all.

The Warriors were led by Alex Snyder, who had 21 points, including five threes.  Alta Aurelia finishes at 18-5.  Their eight seniors shared the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game, including Snyder, Carson Kruger, Jordan Gano, Tayler Gano, Jaden Henrichs, TJ Walter, Cody Goodwin, and Noah Sundene.
