Warriors Fight Their Way to Substate

The 2A District 4 Final between Alta-Aurelia and Pocahontas Area was everything we expected and more as Alta-Aurelia held on for a 74-73 victory.

A three point win earlier this season by Pocahontas Area led many to believe this rematch would be just as close. It was even closer! A pair of Tyler Hanks free throws with 4 seconds left were the difference.

The game started slow as the game was tied at 2 after the first two and a half minutes. That was until Alta-Aurelia’s Alex Snyder found his groove from behind the arc. Snyder would hit three 3’s in the first quarter and six for the game. The Warriors would jump out to a 21-13 first quarter lead and led by as much as 13 in the second and third quarters. However, the Indians never felt it was out of reach.

After a pair of Snyder free throws Poky found themselves down six with 24 seconds left. A Cameron Callion three followed by a Nathan Aljets coast to coast bucket would bring the Indians within 1 with less than five seconds left. Hanks would hit only one of his two free throws which was followed by an Indian turnover. Hanks found himself at the line again up by two with a chance to put the game away and he did. Two free throws made and the game was essentially out of reach as Alta-Aurelia lead 74-70. A buzzer beating three from Jace Davidson made it 74-73.

Davidson led all scorers with 27. Fellow Indians Callion and Aljets added 19 and 14 respectively. Alta-Aurelia was lead by Snyder’s 24 and Carson Kruger’s 22 points.

Snyder was also named the Wells Ag Supply Player of the Game!

Alta-Aurelia will play Sheldon in a 2A Substate game Saturday night in Spirit Lake.
