Two Charged In Bar Disturbance

Storm Lake Police continue to investigate a disturbance occurring early Monday morning at Mo’s Bar on Lake Avenue.

Officers were told two patrons started to leave with an open bottle of beer. When they were confronted by staff, they allegedly started yelling and threw a beer bottle. They got in a vehicle and drove towards the bar employee, allegedly coming within feet of him. No injuries were reported.

The vehicle was located a short time later at 1800 East Milwaukee with both suspects inside. Police removed 21-year-old Garhoth Dak of Storm Lake without incident. When removing 21-year-old Gilo Akwai of Storm Lake, they saw a 22-caliber handgun on the seat between his legs. The weapon was seized and determined to be unloaded.

Police further determined Akwai was wanted on a Nobles County, Minnesota warrant charging him with probation violation on a conviction of intentionally discharging a firearm endangering public safety. Akwai was then charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, a class “D” felony… carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor… and disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. He was jailed on a 76-hundred dollar bond pending extradition to Minnesota.

Dak was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor… and disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. He was jailed on a two-thousand dollar bond.

The suspect’s vehicle was impounded pending the execution of a search warrant on the vehicle, with the investigation continuing.
