Mustangs Roll Into Another Regional Final

A little bit of a slow start didn’t hamper the Newell-Fonda girls basketball team as they routed visiting Glidden Ralston 62-27 in a class 1A regional semi-final game played Friday night at Newell.

The Mustangs trailed 7-6 midway through the first quarter but would outscore the Wildcats 23-3 over the next 12 minutes to take a 29-10 lead at the half.  The game went to a continuous clock with 2:40 left in the 3rd quarter.

Ten different Mustangs scored led by Olivia Larsen’s 18 points.

Coach Dick Jungers said this after the game.

With the win the 4th ranked Mustangs improve to 23-0 and advance to their 11th straight regional final game.  They will play West Monona (17-6), who beat Westwood 58-50.
The regional final will be held at Sac City Monday night at 7pm and will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL
