Panther Free Throw Shooting Key In Tourney Win

The Saint Mary’s girls basketball team advanced in the class 1A regional tournament with an exciting 47-45 win over Clay Central Everly Saturday night at the Panther Pit.

The Panthers led virtually the entire game and made 17-of-25 free throw attempts for the game and went 4-for-5 in the final :43 seconds at the stripe.  The only lead for C-C-E was 2-1 early in the game.

The Wells Ag Supply of Fonda player of the game, Kallie Goettsch, went 7-for-9 at the line and scored 11 points.  Lizzie Lenhart led the Panthers with 16, and Olivia Schaller chipped in with ten.

Saint Mary’s led 20-13 at the half and held off numerous runs by the Mavericks in the 4th quarter.

Clay Central Everly was led by Carissa Doran who scored 14 points, and Audrey Ruda had 13.  The Mavericks finish the year with a record of 6-16.

Saint Mary’s, now 4-18, will host GT-RA Tuesday night at 7pm.  The game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL.

GT-RA won both regular season meetings over the Panthers.
