On the afternoon of Thursday February 8th, 2018 at approximately 3:00 pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department was dispatched to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, located at 1525 West 5th Street, in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that construction dust had activated a smoke detector on the first floor. There was no smoke or fire.
Fire fighters were on scene for approximately 10 minutes and were assisted by the Storm Lake Police Department and B.V.R.M.C. maintenance staff.
On the evening of Thursday, February 8, 2018 at approximately 9:30pm, a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Flindt Drive for a traffic offense.
Upon contacting the driver, identified as Kiara Rivera Torres, age 23 of Lakeside, IA, police allege they learned that Torres was wanted out of Buena Vista County on a warrant charging her with Failure to Appear in Court reference Theft 5th Degree and she was wanted on a warrant issued by the SLPD charging her with Criminal Trespass (simple misdemeanor). The trespass warrant stemmed from an incident reported at the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store on January 31, 2018.
Rivera was arrested and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600.00 bond.
The SLPD was assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department.
All defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
