Voters in nine counties… including Buena Vista, Sac, Pocahontas, and Calhoun… will go to the polls Tuesday to decide the fate of a 25-and-a-half million dollar bond issue for Iowa Central Community College.
President Dan Kinney says the bonds will support the college’s efforts in three areas… workforce training, accessible, affordable education, and revitalization of Northwest Iowa. Funding will be used for improvements to Iowa Central’s Storm Lake center.
Storm Lake Center Director Dan Anderson says a new two-million dollars Industrial Electrical/Mechanical/Welding Training Center will be created in Buena Vista County if the bond referendum passes. He says a Buena Vista County Industrial Training Center would be a key workforce development resource towards insuring a bright economic future for a region economically driven by agriculture, value-added agriculture, livestock, food processing, ag manufacturing, wind turbine energy, bio-fuel plants and agricultural cooperatives. “This Industrial Training Center will prepare individuals to keep area wind turbines turning, food processing lines moving, manufacturers fabricating, the water flowing and the electricity charging,” concludes Anderson.”
Kinney says they hope to have the industrial training center in Storm Lake completed in one to three years.
Polls are open from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
