Big 2nd Half Carries Indians Over Tornadoes

Owen Coburn and Alex Van Dyke combined for 51 points leading Spirit Lake to a 74-58 win over Storm Lake Friday night at Tornado Fieldhouse.

After scoring 16 first half points Coburn picked up his 4th foul of the game with 5:02 to play in the 3rd quarter.  That’s when Van Dyke picked up the slack scoring 15 of his 23 points in the 3rd and the Indians outscored the Tornadoes 21-13 in the quarter, taking a game that was tied at 29 at the half to a Spirit Lake 50-42 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

Storm Lake never mounted a rally as the Indians went on a 14-0 run in the final stanza led by Coburn who scored 12 points in the 4th quarter finishing with a game high 28.

Cham Deng, the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda player of the game, led four Tornadoes in double figures with 19.  Brayden Hoops added 12, and Malga Yanga and Lamar Mulgae had ten each.

Spirit Lake is now 13-4, 8-3 in the Lakes.  Storm Lake is 10-7, 4-7 in the conference.

The Tornado teams play again Tuesday at E-L-C.
