The Pocahontas Area boys basketball team rallied from a 17-point deficit midway in the 2nd quarter to defeat Storm Lake St. Mary’s 65-51 Friday night in Pomeroy.
St. Mary’s led 22-10 after the 1st quarter, and built a lead as big as 29-12. The Indians fought back to get within 36-27 at halftime, and took their first late since early in the game, 45-44 going into the 4th quarter, and the Panthers could not regain the lead after that.
Jace Davidson had 21 for Poky, including 10 in the 4th quarter, sharing the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game with Cameron Callion, who had 16.
Chakouthchok Malou had 19 for St. Mary’s, including five threes. Jake Heitman had 14 off the bench, all in the 1st half. Will Hurd added 9, and the state’s blocked-shots leader had double-figures in that department.
Pocahontas Area is now 10-6 overall, and stays a game back in the Twin Lakes Conference, now 7-2, while St. Mary’s remains winless in conference play, now 2-13 overall.

Delaney Ehn and Elizabeth Ricke each had 16 points, and Ricke ripped down 22 rebounds, as those two shared the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game.
Lizzie Lenhart topped St. Mary’s with 13, and the Panthers go to 2-14, 1-10 TLC.

The Poky teams on Tuesday will host East Sac.
The St. Mary’s teams host Remsen St. Mary’s on Monday, and Sioux Central on Tuesday. Both of those will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL.
