A Storm Lake man was sentenced this week to over four years in prison on fraud and other charges.
According to Buena Vista County District Court records, 41-year-old Hugo Cabrera De La Torre entered guilty pleas to third-degree fraudulent practices, an aggravated misdemeanor… driving while barred… and assault. He was arrested by Storm Lake police last August for allegedly stealing, forging, and cashing a two-thousand dollar insurance check at a Storm Lake bank.
Cabrera was also charged in August with domestic abuse assault, which was reduced to simple assault. The driving while barred charge was filed last June.
Cabrera was sentenced to two years in prison on the fraud charge… two years on the driving while barred charge… and 30 days on the assault charge, with the sentences to be served consecutively. He was also ordered to submit a DNA sample and to pay 41-hundred dollars in fines, surcharges, and court costs.
