A Pocahontas man has been charged for an incident last month, in which Storm Lake Police were called to Storm Lake Honda in regards to a report that someone had attempted to pass a counterfeit one-hundred dollar bill.
The incident took place on December 12th. Officers were told that 40-year-old Jeffrey Roberts of Pocahontas had attempted to pass the bill by asking if he could exchange it for two fifty-dollar bills. Storm Lake Honda employees questioned Roberts about the authenticity of the bill. Roberts allegedly told employees that he was just playing a joke on them, and left the establishment.
Police confirmed that the bill was counterfeit and seized it. Roberts did not receive any money in exchange for the bill, and had reportedly told Storm Lake Honda employees that they could keep the counterfeit bill as a souvenir.
On Thursday at approximately 6pm, Roberts met with Investigators at the Storm Lake Police Department, where he was taken into custody. Roberts was charged with Forgery, a class D felony. He was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail, where he was held on a five-thousand dollar bond.
