On the evening of Sunday December 31st 2017, at approximately 10:49 PM Officers went to 511 Russell on a report of an intoxicated juvenile. Upon arrival, Officers determined that two 17 year old males and a 16 year old male all from Storm Lake had been drinking alcoholic beverages at the residence. All three were charged with Minor In Possession Of Alcohol, a simple misdemeanor, and were referred to Juvenile court. They were all released to adult family members. Police further charged Jared Richard Arett, age 21, of Storm Lake for Permitting a Minor under age 18 to Consume and Possess Alcohol on Property. Arett was released on a promise to appear.
On the morning of Monday January 1, 2018, at approximately 9:14 am, the Storm Lake Fire Department was dispatched to the 1700 block of Expansion Boulevard in reference to a natural gas leak.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they were advised that a visible vapor was observed by police officers coming from the shoulder of the road approximately 200 feet south of East Richland Drive on Expansion Boulevard.
Alliant Energy was contacted and arrived to investigate and determined that the leak was not natural gas but was in fact sewer gas coming from a possible underground leak in the sanitary sewer.
The Storm Lake Water Plant was contacted to determine what repairs may be needed.
There was no hazardous condition. Fire fighters were on scene for approximately 1 hour and were assisted by the Storm Lake Police Department, the Storm Lake Water Department, and Alliant Energy staff.
On the morning of Monday January 1st 2018, at approximately 1:38 AM, SLPD Officers were conducting a bar check at Mo’s Bar when they observed a wanted person inside the establishment. Officers arrested Tyshawn Laron Newby, age 23, of Storm Lake on a warrant issued from the Iowa State Patrol, for Failure to Pay Fines on the original charge of No Proof of Insurance, a simple misdemeanor. Newby was transported to the BV Co Jail and was booked and held on $950 bond.
