Ashtyn Verbeek scored a game high 33 points leading the Hull-Western Christian girls basketball team to a 77-45 win over Storm Lake.
After falling behind 40-19 the Tornadoes went on a 8-3 to close the first half and trailed 43-27. H-W-C outscored Storm Lake 26-10 in the 3rd quarter and ran away for their sixth straight win to start the season.
Storm Lake was led by Briana Soto’s 11 points, Pasha Nyewe added ten and Rachel Bozonie chipped in with nine. Storm Lake falls to 1-8 overall.
The Western Christian boys beat Storm Lake 56-38. The Wolfpack were led by Jacob Vis’ game high 22 points and Caleb Harmsen hit six 3-pointers, five in the 2nd half, and scored 20.
After trailing 21-12 at the break, Storm Lake fell behind 32-16 midway through the 3rd quarter only to go on a 17-7 run and close the gap to 39-33 heading into the 4th quarter. The Wolfpack would score the first five points of the 4th and Storm Lake was never able to mount a rally.
The Tornadoes were led by Malga Yanga’s 14 points, Cham Deng added 11. The Tornadoes did not shoot a free throw in the game, while the Wolfpack were 4-for-8.
Western Christian is now 5-0 overall, 4-0 in the Lakes. Storm Lake is now 5-2 on the year, and 2-2 in the Lakes.
The Tornado teams will play again Thursday night at OA-BCIG, the games will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA
