Newell Fonda Sweeps OA-BCIG

The Newell Fonda girls basketball team won their eight straight game to open the season, as they defeated OA-BCIG 87-58 on Monday in Ida Grove.

The Mustangs never trailed, stringing 14 straight points together early on to seize control.

Newell Fonda was led by the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game, Jenna Coppock, who poured in seven threes to account for 21 points.  Megan Morenz had 18, Olivia Larsen 15, and Ella Larsen 13.  The Mustangs collectively had 12 threes.

OA-BCIG was led by Anna Van Dusen’s 25, and Beth Rehse had 20.  The Falcons fall to 2-6.

In a see-saw boys game, Newell Fonda put together a strong 4th quarter to down the Falcons 69-62.

The Mustangs were on a roll to start, grabbing an 18-1 lead, and were up 21-10 after the 1st quarter.  OA-BCIG flipped the score in their favor during the 2nd quarter, and were up 30-26 at the half.  The Falcons were up by as many as nine in the 3rd, and led 41-37 going to the 4th.

A Jake Davis old-fashioned three-point play early in the 4th tied it at 43-43, and the Mustangs followed with another basket to take a lead that they would not relinquish.

Bryce Coppock (24 points) RJ Rojas (15 points) and Davis with 12, shared the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game.  They combined for 24 of the Mustangs 32 points in the 4th quarter.

Landon Ray led the Falcons with 23, followed by Kaden Ladwig with 10.

OA-BCIG dips to 5-3.  The Falcons teams will host Storm Lake on Thursday starting at 6pm.  They will be broadcast on 92.9 KKIA.

Newell Fonda has now won four in a row, and are 4-3.  The Mustangs teams play Friday at Carroll Kuemper.
