Sioux Central’s basketball double-header sweep over Storm Lake St. Mary’s Tuesday night in Sioux Rapids began with a 63-34 triumph in the girls game.
The Rebels only deficit was 2-0, as they went on runs of 16-0 and 17-0 in the 1st half to build a 35-6 halftime advantage.
Kally Fahnlander was one of three Sioux Central players in double-figures with 14, getting her the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game. Shera Smith added 10, and Dani Boettcher led the way with 17. The Rebels have now won four in a row, improving to 5-3.
Olivia Schaller had 16 for the Panthers, and Lizzie Lenhart had 15. St. Mary’s is now 1-4.
Sioux Central won the boys match-up 72-37.
St. Mary’s started well, building a 10-3 lead, with was cut to 12-10 at the end of the 1st quarter on a Hunter Decker three in the final seconds. Decker hit a three to start the 2nd quarter scoring to give Sioux Central the lead to stay, as a 12-0 run lifted the Rebels. Another Decker triple at the halftime buzzer put the Rebels up 31-23 at the break, and they pulled away by starting the 2nd half on a 13-0 run.
Decker got Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game honor for a 21 point effort, which included five from downtown. Chase Jessen was next in line with 10. Sioux Central is now 2-4.
The Panthers (0-4) were led by Will Hurd with 12.
The Sioux Central teams will visit Pocahontas Area on Friday.
The St. Mary’s squads will be back in action on Thursday, as they’ll host River Valley. That double-header starts at 6pm, and will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.
