Seven Iowa communities… including Spencer and Cleghorn… are sharing in 2.6-million dollars in Community Development Block Grants.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded the funds to support community water and sewer infrastructure projects.
Spencer is receiving 600-thousand dollars for construction of improvements to separate storm water and sanitary sewer systems and to meet EPA regulations. The project has a total cost of one-and-a-half million dollars.
Cleghorn was awarded 240-thousand dollars towards a 719-thousand dollar project to construct a water tower, replacement of water mains leading to the tower, and installation of new controls.
The grants are awarded based upon the benefit to low- and moderate-income persons, financial need, project impact and readiness, and commitment of local resources to the project. IEDA received 16 applications totaling 6.3-million dollars in funding requests.
