On the evening of Thursday December 7th at approximately 5:38pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was called to Wal-Mart in regards to two shoplifters. Upon arrival, officers met with loss prevention agents who allege that two women had stolen $52.35 worth of merchandise from the store. Police arrested Katrina Mae Seitz age 39 of Bemidji, MN and charged her with theft 5th degree (simple misdemeanor). Seitz was cited and released on her own recognizance.
Officers also arrested Tanisha Mae Wagner age 21 of Bemidji, MN. During the arrest Wagner provided a false name to officers. When officers determined that Wagner had provided false information, she had a panic attack. Wagner was transported to BVRMC by ambulance where she was treated and released. Wagner was charged with theft 5th degree (simple misdemeanor) and providing false information to officers (simple misdemeanor). Wagner was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held on $300 bond.
On the afternoon of Wednesday 12/6/17 at approximately 3:49 pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department was dispatched to McCorkle Hall, on the Buena Vista University Campus, in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that a smoke detector had activated in a 1st floor suite, causing the alarm. There was no smoke or fire.
The alarm is believed to have been a result of a system malfunction.
Fire fighters were on scene for approximately 10 minutes and were assisted by thee Storm Lake Police Department and the B.V. University Security Department.
