Warriors Sweep Saint Mary’s Friday Night

Friday night basketball at the Panther Pit in Storm Lake as Saint Mary’s hosted Alta-Aurelia.  In the girls game the Warriors never trailed and won 55-18.  Lily Peterson scored a game high 16 points and was named the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda player of the game.  Erin Lockin added 13, and Mary Barnes drilled four 3-pointers are tallied 12.

Saint Mary’s was led by Abby Jones’ eight points.  The Panthers are now 0-2 and the Warriors improve to 2-3.

The Warrior boys then made it a sweep with a 59-50 hard fought win.  Alta-Aurelia led 28-24 at the half, but it was Saint Mary’s that carried a 38-37 lead into the 4th quarter.  Early in the final stanza with the game tied at 40, Alta-Aurelia went on an 11-2 run to build a 51-42 lead.  The Panthers could get no closer than five points after that.

Alex Snyder scored 14 points and Tyler Hanks chipped in with eleven to lead the Warriors.  Snyder and Jaden Henrichs combined to go 8 for 10 at the free throw line down the stretch to keep Saint Mary’s at bay.

The Panthers were led Will Hurd with 12 points, Jake Heitman came off the bench and scored 11, while Alex Merten netted ten.

Saint Mary’s was 9 for 19 at the free throw line and the Warriors were 18 for 30.

The Panthers, now 0-1, will play at home Tuesday vs. GT-RA.  The Warriors improve to 2-0 and will host Sioux Central Tuesday night.
