A Storm Lake woman has been arrested for fabricating a robbery.
The reporting party told Storm Lake Police that a black male snatched her wallet from her hands at around 7:30 Monday evening at Rojas Bakery and fled on foot. Police were provided with a limited description of the suspect and checked the area, but the suspect was not found.
On Tuesday afternoon, after investigators reviewed area surveillance video, they re-interviewed the victim, identified as 38-year-old Maria Ek Ramirez of Storm Lake. Police allege that during the interview, Ek Ramirez recanted her statement, and said she made up the story.
Following an investigation, Ek Ramirez was arrested and charged with False Report of an Indictable Offense to Law Enforcement, a serious misdemeanor. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a one-thousand dollar bond.
