A Washta man received weapons charges after Storm Lake Police stopped his vehicle for a traffic offense around 1pm last Friday in the 1400 block of Lake Avenue.
Upon contacting the driver, identified as 32-year-old Cody Ray, police allege they located an unloaded handgun just behind the driver’s seat, and an unloaded rifle with a magazine and ammunition in the backseat of the vehicle.
During an investigation, Storm Lake Police determined that Ray was a defendant in a current order of protection issued out of Cherokee County, which prohibited him from possessing the weapons.
Ray was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, a class D felony…and Carrying Weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a five-thousand dollar bond. Both weapons were seized.
