A man was injured after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and wound up in Storm Lake.
According to the Storm Lake Police Department, shortly before 11:30pm last Friday, 20-year-old Juan Garcia Ortiz of Storm Lake was driving westbound at a high rate of speed on Chautauqua Park Drive in his 2006 Chevy Sedan. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed through a wooden guard rail, going airborne, and landing in Storm Lake approximately ten feet off shore.
Ortiz was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Ortiz’s vehicle was recovered from the lake, and sustained approximately five-thousand dollars in damage. The damage to the guard rail is estimated at 250-dollars.
Following an investigation, the Storm Lake Police Department cited Ortiz with Failure to Maintain Control, Striking Fixtures Upon a Highway, and No Insurance. Ortiz was released pending a court date.
Assisting at the scene were the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department, the Buena Vista County Paramedics, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
