The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors has voted to join a different regional mental health agency…but approval of the counties in that agency is still needed.
The Woodbury supervisors have been unhappy with the three-county Sioux Rivers Regional Mental Health and Disability Services Board… which the county has been a member of along with Plymouth and Sioux Counties since 2014.
Tuesday, the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution to join the Rolling Hills Community Services Region, which consists of Buena Vista, Calhoun, Carroll, Cherokee, Crawford, and Sac Counties. However, Buena Vista County Supervisor Paul Merten says that’s not a done deal. He says the Rolling Hills board has a lot of concerns about Woodbury County joining Rolling Hills, both legal and financial.
The state requires the regional groups to have at least three counties, and Woodbury switching groups would leave Sioux Rivers with only two counties. Merten says Sioux Rivers has purchased assets in Woodbury County, but the agreement with those three counties calls for those assets to stay in the regional group.
Merten says Woodbury joining Rolling Hills would require the approval of all seven current members of Rolling Hills.
